When you are working on a fashion show you may be asked to take photographs in the front of the show or at the back.  Backstage you will photographs models getting ready – getting their hair and make-up done, getting changed and so on.  Here the focus is on things like the hair and make up as magazine will later publish these as a part of seasonal trends.

For a backstage kit you will need a digital camera, a fast lens which is good for portraits such as a 70-200mm (so you also don’t have to get too close to the model) and also something like a ring flash is useful and very tool these days to use on models.

stockxchng-rotterdam-marathon-2006-3-stock-photo-by-paleRunning is one of the top sports in the world and it is a highly popular ways for people to get fit! Many people who get involved in running become obsessed with the activity as they get used to how great they feel after exercising.  As the weather begins to warm up, people start to go out and do more running in groups and there are plenty of charity runs and marathons to go out there and photograph.

Running photographs are great for stock libraries but also for newspapers covering local events.  If you are taking pictures with the intent of selling them to press remember that you want to capture an element of human interest – show the winners and the losers, show groups of people and the venue.  Get people looking exhausted get people crossing the winning line and so on.

If you are shooting with a stock library in mind, then you need to think about what kind of pictures would sell and be interesting to buyers.  You may want to get images without the focus on one person, instead focus on the crowds and movement, get pictures of people from the back view or (for example) all the feet running along.

When it comes to Mother’s day think of the images you could shoot and use for gifts and also the actual pictures you can take on the day for yourself and your mother.  Sometimes photographers are so busy taking pictures of other people that they forget to take pictures of themselves to treasure.

Other times you may be hired by a company to take photosets for press events or even conferences.  These are situations that tend to be a little more spontaneous than most you will need to be able to get some great shots under pressure and with lots of people around you.

stockxchng-businessman-stock-photo-by-tanelOnce you have found your first corporate clients, you will want to think about dealing with the photo shoot itself.  Is it any different from most other shoots?  Well in a sense it’s similar to portrait shoots except you are working in an unfamiliar environment and to a tight deadline.

Therefore you must plan ahead and know what you are doing before hand.  Your equipment must be in working order, powered up and ready to go.

Equipment…
