Found your blog post while looking for open source Lightroom alternatives. I was wondering if you tried & compared Darktable (darktable.org). It only runs on Linux & OS X, not Windows, if that's a limiting factor.

Also, are you planning to move from Lightroom to one of these 3?

Thanks for the article. Quick question..........
I also have the AB 800 strobe lights. How to I adjust the kickers to the -2 and +2 power on just those lights? The slider on the back of the units is power output right or is it f-stop configurations?

With baiscally everyone using digital now I don't think it is likely to get many 'special' photos. As Ira points out, to get a shot like this was a major event, now it is pull out the phone and snap. I'm sure we will lose many photos, as mentioned in the article, as people don't back up well. Possibly in a bit more time with cloud backup then it will be a different thing, but for now, most of us have probably lost more shots than we ever did with film. Will be interesting to see even in 50 years what we still have from now.

interesting point. but how many digital shots will be interesting in 100 years? people holding drinks, sticking out their tongues, holding up various configurations of fingers ...

these people in your photo dressed in their finest. went into the woods with a heavy camera. posed in an interesting way.

the act of taking a photograph is a form of ritual. and the image that results is a ritual icon.

not all rituals should be celebrated and saved.

That's a really stunning photo and something I strive to be able to do one day. Thanks a lot for posting the info as this will give me something to play around with. My problem is my triggers don't allow ETTL so will have to set things by hand.

Loving the whole blog by the way, already spent too much of this morning (UK time) looking and reading.... won't tell the wife!

I think a bit differentially. With the high-capability of auto-focus in video recording for action sports and a kit lens of 16-50 f/2.8, Sony certainly brings a headache to Canon & Nikon. With 17-55, f/2.8 lenses they are significantly more expensive, while not being a 24 megapixle camera, w/o 12fps.

Even Sony a65 does bring a headache to them.

In retrospect, if the technology evolved differently, TMT would be the way, NOT the SLR. SLR has known for years (1951.. and then 1970 onward_), the best the-then invention, until TMT appears from Sony. Slowly evolution of this will make more affordable excellent cameras for commoners.

I have a feeling that Nikon & Canon are doing their research will announce soon.

These is a great tool for potential camera buyers just like me, i'd like to share my idea, that canon for me has the greatest lenses, and camera owners should invest on lenses for greater performance and photo quality.
