Sometimes when you need a low cost way to create photographs, you need to look no further than your own home.  With the things you can find around the house, you could find a new subject matter or create a new effect without spending lots of money.

Here are 5 ideas that you can try.

1.    Using fabric with lights

Whether you are using studio lights or natural light, it’s quite easy to create interesting patterns in your photographs.  Fabric which is interesting, for example, has an unusual pattern or weave can be placed over a light to create a shadow.  This looks especially good in black and white moody portraits, where the shapes are thrown onto the models face or body.

1. Expose your work online

If you are already good at showing your work to others and getting critique, then good for you!  There’s always new ways to share your work and if you put your work online and get feedback this way, then why not attempt to show your work another way, such as in a small exhibition?

If you have never shown your work before then get yourself online.  The internet is one of the main ways photographers not share their work. It doesn’t have to just be for critique if you don’t want it to be – you can just put your work on to an online gallery, like www.flickr.com or www.picasa.com – and you will generally get a few comments on your work.

1.    Get some new equipment

Not to encourage overspending, but sometimes, getting some new equipment can really inspire you to take some great shots.  It doesn’t have to be expensive like a brand new camera body or lens.  It can be something small, like a filter you’ve always wanted to try, or a flash gun, or a flash accessory.
